Description

This is a barn located about 50 metres north of Crondon Park, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made around 1834 to 1836. The barn features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a low brick plinth, topped with a clay pantile roof that has gabled ends. It is designed with five bays and has a midstrey at the centre of the south side, which was originally located on the north side before being moved during the 1834 to 1836 alterations.

The north elevation includes a large cart entrance at the centre, fitted with plank double doors, and loading doors positioned to the left and right. The south elevation showcases a large gabled midstrey at the centre, also with plank double doors, and later outshuts at the angles to the left and right.

Inside, the barn has studding and straight through bracing on the walls, supported by girts and unjowled posts. There are curved braces, two of which are missing, connecting the posts to the tie-beams. The roof structure consists of queen-post trusses with clasped side purlins above collars, as well as intermediate collars featuring birdsmouth joints to the purlins. The common rafters are intact and are mortice and tenoned at the ridge without a board. The construction of the midstrey is similar to that of the barn, reflecting its original position before being relocated.
