Description

Wiseman’s is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house located in Great Waltham. It is believed to have been the residence of Thomas Wiseman, whose memorial brass is in the parish church. The house features cross wings at the east and west ends. The central block and east cross wing project on the first storey, with the central block also displaying exposed timber framing on the first storey. Timber framing is visible on the east side of the building. An original four-centred doorway is present, adorned with carved spandrels and an embattled cornice. Several old three- and four-light casement windows with leaded panes remain. The interior includes carved and moulded ceiling beams, while the roof retains original timbers supported by crown posts. The roof is tiled.
