Description

Priory Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with handmade red clay tiles. The main range, which faces southwest, consists of three bays and features an axial stack and an external stack at the left end. To the right, there is a two-bay crosswing. A single-storey lean-to extension is located at the left end. The main range has one storey with attics, while the crosswing has two storeys.

The building has a three-window range of 20th-century casements, including two in gabled dormers. There is a door on the left side of a 20th-century porch. Inside, the house features chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops and plain joists with a vertical section. The jowled posts and some exposed studding are notable features. Diamond mortices in the rear wall suggest that some timber may have been reused rather than having unglazed windows originally.

The left side has a large wood-burning hearth with a re-used mantel beam from a timber-framed chimney, and walls made of 17th-century bricks that are 0.33 meters thick. On the right side, there is a smaller wood-burning hearth with internal brick splays and a chamfered mantel beam with lamb's tongue stops. A bread oven is present in the rebricked hearth at the left end, although its door is missing. Originally, there was a lobby entrance in front of the stack, but this doorway is now blocked.
