Description
Park Farmhouse is a house that dates from the early 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the early 17th century, 18th century, and 20th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof covered in machine-made red plain tiles. The main range, which is from the early 17th century, has two bays and faces southeast, featuring an axial stack at the left end. There are early 16th century (or earlier) crosswings of two bays at each end. A 19th century external stack is located to the right, with a 20th century single-storey extension beyond it. At the rear of the main range is a single-storey service wing from the 18th or 19th century, which has an internal stack at the end and a lean-to in the left rear corner. The building has two storeys with attics and a three-window range of 20th century diamond-leaded casements. The entrance features a 20th century six-panel door and doorcase.
The roof of the main range is significantly higher than those of the crosswings, covering their inner pitches, and features a concertina stack. The left crosswing has an underbuilt jetty, a transverse beam with double ogee mouldings, and joists with similar mouldings in the front bay, although the joists in the rear bay have been replaced. Mitres in the right girt, over a large wood-burning hearth, suggest that there was once a timber-framed chimney in that position. The right crosswing has plain joists of horizontal section in the rear bay, with all but three being replaced or altered in the front bay. Studs in the left wall of the right crosswing have been removed to connect it with the main range. The main range also features a large wood-burning hearth facing right and has been significantly altered to create a stair hall. The building includes jowled posts, and while the roofs have not been inspected, they appear to have been altered. The rear wing has a chamfered transverse beam and an internal well that is in good condition.
