Description

The Clock House is a service and stable range that has been converted into a house. It dates from the mid-18th century and underwent conversion in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and is topped with a roof made of red clay pantiles. The main range consists of seven bays facing southeast and is two storeys high, with a one-storey rear wing that has attics at the left end. There is an external stack and a lean-to extension at the right end.

On the ground floor, there are six 18th-century sash windows, each with 12 lights and flat arches made of gauged brick, set back in recesses with semi-circular arches of gauged brick. The first floor features six 18th-century casement windows with similar heads, along with a central casement that has glazing bars arranged in an octagonal pattern, all using crown glass. A central 20th-century door and doorway with rusticated jambs and a semi-circular arch is set back within the original gauged brick arch. The building has a plain band, a dentilled eaves cornice, and a pediment made of gault brick. The hipped roof is topped with a central octagonal wooden cupola that houses a clock and a copper dome, along with an octagonal bell-turret above that has scrolled wooden legs and a lead dome. The rear elevation and the rear wing also feature a dentilled eaves cornice.

The tithe map from 1841 indicates a carriage drive leading to the central entrance, with two rear wings creating an irregular half-H plan.
