Description

Monk's Farm Cottages is a house that has been converted into three attached cottages. It dates from the late 16th century and has been altered in the 17th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed and roughcast rendered, with a roof made of machine-made red plain tiles. It has four bays facing west, featuring an axial stack located one bay from the left end and a central lateral external stack at the right end. There are two early 20th-century rear wings, each with an internal stack at the end, and a small lean-to extension at the rear of the left wing, which is roofed with corrugated asbestos. The structure is two storeys high.

On the ground floor, there are three 20th-century casement windows, although two were boarded over at the time of the survey in September 1986. The first floor has five 20th-century casement windows, along with two doors that were also boarded over during the survey. A 20th-century door leads to number 1 in the right return. Inside, there is a chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops, plain joists in a vertical section in the right bay, and horizontal section elsewhere. The building features jowled posts, close studding with arched tension braces that are trenched to the inside, and some 17th-century internal doors. The roof was rebuilt in the 20th century, and there are 20th-century grates.
