Description

The coach house and stable block, located approximately 75 metres north-west of Spains Hall, dates from the 18th century. It features a timber frame with plastered base walls made of red brick in Flemish bond, and is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. The stable block consists of seven bays facing southeast, with the coach house at the left end projecting both forwards and backwards, creating a T-plan. There is a small 19th-century stable at the front right corner and another small 19th-century stable to the left of the coach house, which connects it to the dovecote. A lean-to shed with a corrugated iron roof is situated at the rear of the stable block.

The building is two storeys high. The coach house includes two pairs of double garage doors, a 20th-century window with an arched head above, and a clock face in the gable. A square bell-turret with a slated pyramidal roof is also present on the gable. The stable block features two fixed windows with 32 small lights and one with 24 lights on the ground floor, along with three fixed windows on the first floor, one having 18 lights and the others equipped with sliding external shutters. There are two boarded doors, one of which includes a row of vents and a horizontally sliding closure.

On the rear elevation of the coach house, there is a pitching door at first floor level with a pulley on an iron bracket above, as well as a round window with six radial glazing bars. The stables contain four and two loose boxes made of timber with iron grills, with the posts ending in moulded square finials. Some blue stable tiles are found in the right stable, and both stables have wall ladders leading to the hayloft above. The walls feature primary straight bracing, while the roof is constructed with butt purlins, collar trusses, and raking struts.
