Description

The wall of a walled-in garden, dating from the early 19th century, is located 120 metres east of Stisted Hall. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with some limestone and wrought iron elements. The wall encloses a rectangular garden measuring 87 metres from west to east and 54 metres from north to south. To the north of the north wall, there are later 19th-century lean-to potting sheds.

A plain vehicle entrance, 3 metres wide, is situated near the south end of the east wall. The west wall features two wicket gateways, and there is one in the south wall, each with a block of limestone in each jamb, segmental arches made of gauged brick, and wrought iron gates adorned with fleur-de-lis terminals. A similar gateway in the northern part of the east wall has been blocked with hardboard. The north wall contains two plain wicket doorways, also with similar arches and plain doors.

The height of the wall varies from 3.5 to 5 metres and tapers from 0.46 metre thick at the base to 0.23 metre at the top, featuring plinths and piers on the outside of the west, north, and east walls, as well as the inside of the south wall. The potting sheds have three horizontal sash windows with 15+15 lights on the north elevation, a disused flue in the garden wall, and slate roofs. The wall is topped with almost complete moulded brick copings. The walled-in garden is not depicted on a map from 1823 but is shown, without the potting sheds, on the tithe map of 1839.
