CRESSING THE STREET TL 72 SE (west side)

1/65 Barn 20 metres south- east of Rook Hall Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. Early to mid C16, altered in Cl7 and C18. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed mainly with,corrugated asbestos, partly with handmade red plain tiles and red clay 'Roman' tiles. 5 bays aligned NW-SE, with Cl7 midstrey roofed with plain tiles to NE of second bay from NW end. C18 one-bay extension with hipped roof at SE end. NE bay only roofed with 'Roman' tiles, remainder of main range with asbestos. Jowled posts, curved braces set at a low pitch and trenched outside heavy studding. Edge-halved and bridled scarfs in wallplates. 3 original arched braces to tiebeams in situ, the others replaced by bolted knees. Partition between lilt bay and the remainder, not original. Roof originally of crownpost form, rebuilt in C17 in clasped purlin form. Jowled posts and original clasped purlin roof in midstrey. RCHM 7.
