Description

TL 62 NE GREAT BARDFIELD BRAINTREE ROAD (east side)

5/124 Stable block approx. 40 9.5.79 metres north-west of Bluegate Hall Farmhouse (Formerly listed as Stable GV II Block at Bluegate Hall Farm) Stables with hayloft over. Early C19. Red brick and flint, roofed with slate. Aligned NE-SW, facing SE, rounded at both ends. 2 storeys. Ground floor, 3 casements with semi-circular arches of gauged brick, 2 plain boarded doors with segmental arches. First floor, 3 slatted windows and pitching door, all with semi-circular arches. Low-pitched slate roof, half-conoid at the ends. The brickwork is of Flemish bond on the straight, header bond on the curves. Most of the flintwork is of uncoursed rubble, but there is a band of knapped flint approx. one metre above ground level.
