Description
Bluegate Hall Farmhouse is a house dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed and has roughcast rendering, covered by a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The house originally had four bays facing southwest, with an axial stack (a chimney aligned with the main structure) positioned in the second bay from the right and a 19th-century axial stack one bay from the left. A rear wing is located behind the main stack, and there is a single-storey extension beyond. A stair tower is found in the left rear angle. The house is two stories high. On the ground floor, one early 19th-century sash window with twelve panes of glass was present during a survey in July 1984; the other windows and most of the front wall were missing at that time. The first floor has three 20th-century sash windows, each with twelve panes of glass. A 20th-century glazed door is situated within a large, gabled 20th-century porch at the front. The interior features chamfered axial beams with stops of different types, including enriched “lamb’s tongue” details.
