Description
This building is a cottage located 5 metres northwest of Leapingwell's Farmhouse, dating from around 1600 and altered in the 19th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The cottage has four bays facing northwest, featuring a 18th-century external stack on the left end, which has a small lean-to extension at the rear, and a 19th-century external stack on the right end.
On the ground floor, there is one 20th-century casement window and two 19th-century casement windows. The first floor has one 19th-century casement window and another in a lean-to dormer. A 20th-century door leads to the front of a gabled porch with a slate roof. The cottage is one storey with attics.
In the two left bays, there are chamfered axial and transverse beams with lambda tongue stops, while the right bay has similar beams that are unstopped. All joists are plain and of horizontal section, arranged longitudinally in the second bay from the right end and laterally in the other bays. There is an inserted stair trap in the left front corner that is blocked, and inverted knees are present over the binding beams. The left first-floor window is at floor level, and the frame is mainly covered by plaster and wallpaper, with the roof ceiled. This cottage was built as part of a 'Unit System' pair with the main house.
