Description
Boleyns is a house originally built in the 17th century with timber framing and plaster, which was later added to and significantly altered in the late 18th century. Joseph Saville began constructing the house in 1625. The current structure is primarily late 18th century and features plastered brick. It has two storeys, attics, and cellars.
The west front displays a three-window range, with three-light bay windows extending through both storeys, flanking a central wooden doorcase and a Venetian window above. The south front features a two-window range with Venetian windows. All windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, set in flush cased frames. The central eight-panel door on the west front is topped by a semi-circular fanlight with ornamental fan glazing, and is framed by a well-crafted doorcase with panelled reveals, engaged plain columns, and an open pediment adorned with sections of a triglyph frieze. Stone steps lead up to the doorway.
At the rear, timber-framed and plastered wings extend to the east. The south wing reveals exposed timber framing on the ground storey and features an 18th-century doorcase. The roofs are tiled and include a wooden eaves cornice with flat modillions on the west front. Inside, the house boasts fine panelling, an 18th-century staircase, and several impressive 18th-century fireplaces.
