Description
Dial House Inn is an early 17th century timber-framed and plastered house, likely built in 1603, as indicated by the date carved on one of the bressumers. It features a timber-framed addition on the west end, with weatherboarding on the first storey and painted brick on the ground storey. The building has two storeys, attics, and cellars.
The south front showcases a jetty on the upper storey supported by a carved bressumer. The east side also has a jetty with a gable above, both resting on carved bressumers. The upper bressumer, which bears the date 1603, is supported by carved scroll brackets, while the lower one is on carved brackets. There is some exposed timber-framing, which is now painted, and an original mullioned window that has been blocked under the first storey jetty.
No 173 features one window range, while Dial House Inn has three window ranges, with double-hung sashes and glazing bars in flush cased frames. The outer windows on the first storey are three-light, and the ground storey has three-light bays. A central six-panel door with an architrave is topped by a late 17th century flat wooden canopy on pierced and shaped brackets. The roofs are tiled.
