Description

Bishop Cauden's Hall is an early 19th-century red brick building, now painted, located on Church Lane in Bocking. It is a single-storey structure featuring a five-window range with double-hung sashes that have glazing bars, all set in plain reveals. Each window is placed within a slightly recessed elliptical arched brick recess. Above the center window, there is an arch that displays the inscription "Bishop Cauden's Hall endowed 1678, rebuilt 1811, restored 1910." Bishop Cauden was known for authoring the book "Eiken Basilike," which he distributed as a forged account by Charles Stuart of his suffering, and it went through over fifty editions.
