Description

This byre, located approximately 10 metres south-east of Place House in Great Bardfield, dates from the 18th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The structure consists of five bays aligned north-west to south-east and faces north-east. It features three plain boarded doors, primary straight bracing, hanging knees to the tiebeams, and a clasped purlin roof. This byre is part of a complete group of farm buildings within the village, making it a rare survival. It is listed for its group value.
