Description
Lone's Hole (south) is a cottage dating from the late 18th century. It is timber framed, plastered, and has a thatched roof. The building has three bays facing southwest and features a central stack. There is a 19th-century rear extension with a catslide roof. The cottage is one storey with attics and has a two-window range of 20th-century casements. The lower windows have external hinged shutters, while the upper windows are set in swept dormers. The original boarded door, which has a small inserted pane, is located in a 20th-century tiled gabled porch. There is also one plain boarded door from the 20th century. The roof is gambrel in style. Inside, there are plain axial beams and joists that are plastered to the soffits. The cottage has two hearths back to back, featuring brick arches on iron straps that create a lobby-entrance. An original stair is located to the rear of the stack, and there is an original brick floor in the left room along with original floorboards. This cottage and the one immediately to the north are both referred to as Lone's Hole, with this one being identified as the south cottage.
