Description
This barn, located approximately 70 metres north-east of Bombose Farmhouse, dates from around 1700. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with a main roof made of slate and a midstrey roof covered in corrugated iron. The barn has five bays oriented roughly east-west, with a midstrey on the south side. There are lean-to extensions on each side of the midstrey from the 18th century, as well as a large lean-to extension to the north, which is roofed and clad with corrugated iron and dates from the 20th century. The corner posts are jowled, while the intermediate posts are unjowled and have hanging knees. The wallplates show face-halved and bladed scarfs. The roof features clasped purlins. The barn is constructed from high-quality timber, likely imported, and showcases fully pegged construction with fine carpentry, making it an exceptionally complete example of its period.
