Description

This is an 18th-century milestone made of limestone, located 230 metres southwest of Baythorne Hall. It has a rectangular shape, measuring 280 millimetres by 240 millimetres and standing 860 millimetres high. The southwest face of the milestone features an inscription that reads "Haverhill 12 to Halstead." It is positioned 1 metre north of the edge of the A604 road and was erected by the Essex Turnpike Trust, which was established by an Act of Parliament in 1765.
