Description

This milestone, dating from the 18th century, is located on the south side of the road approximately 270 metres east of the Congregational Church. It is made of limestone and has an approximately diamond shape with a rounded top. The northeast-facing surface is inscribed with the words 'Haverill 10 to Halstead', while the inscription on the northwest face is illegible. This milestone was erected by the Essex Turnpike Trust, which was established by an Act of Parliament in 1765.
