Description
Springgates is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the mid-16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a peg tile roof that is hipped on the west side and has a hipped gablet on the east end. The building features a long wall jetty and a crosswing at the west, with the high end articulated at the rear. It is two stories tall and has a 'U' plan form, with a 20th-century hipped rear extension at the east end.
The front of the house includes a 20th-century lean-to porch with a peg tile roof and 19th-century casement windows that have square panes and small ventilator lights, all fitted with 20th-century shutters. There is an off-centre ridge line stack with a square base and rebuilt upper parts that are slightly tapered. Inside, there are two original door heads featuring carved spandrels, one of which includes shields, along with moulded joists and bridging joists that have leaf stops.
