Description
Rippingales is a house located in Belchamp Walter, dating from the 17th century and earlier. It features a timber frame with plaster and gabled roofs covered in peg tiles. The building has two storeys and includes an off-centre concertina stack and a 20th-century open-sided gabled porch at the front. The façade displays two jettied gables with carved tie beams resting on shaped and carved brackets. The windows are 19th-century casements, and the front and end gables are clad in black weatherboarding. Although it is a typical baffle entry house, the lower top plate indicates that it is based on an earlier structure, which was largely rebuilt around 1630. Inside, the spine beams are stop-chamfered, and those in the parlour are supported by shaped brackets. This room also contains an early 19th-century corner cupboard.
