Description

This complex of farm buildings, located approximately 40 metres south-east of Over Hall, dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings are mainly timber framed and weatherboarded, with some sections constructed of red brick in English bond or uncoursed. The roofs are covered with a mix of pantiles, corrugated materials, and red clay 'Roman' tiles.

The complex includes several notable structures:

  1. An 18th-century barn with five bays, aligned east-west, featuring a midstrey to the north and a roof covered with pantiles. It has original great doors to the north and a hardwood frame with primary straight bracing on red brick footings. Most of the arched braces to the straight tiebeams have been replaced with bolted knees, and four bays of the clasped purlin roof have been rebuilt.

  2. A 19th/20th-century shelter shed with three bays located to the west of the midstrey, constructed with round poles and featuring a catslide roof that connects to the main roof.

  3. A 19th-century wagon lodge with four bays to the west, which has bolted knees on the tiebeams and a roof covered with 'Roman' tiles.

  4. A 19th-century shelter shed with four bays to the north of the wagon lodge, featuring a low-pitched lean-to roof of 'Roman' tiles supported by round poles, along with a full-length wooden hay-rack.

  5. A 19th-century shelter shed with five bays located to the north of the east end of the barn, made of red brick in English bond and topped with a low-pitched lean-to roof of corrugated tiles.

  6. A 19th-century shed to the northwest, built to a running level with red brick walls on the north and east sides, mainly uncoursed, and timber framed and weatherboarded on the south and west sides. It has a low-pitched roof of corrugated tiles.

  7. A 19th-century byre with three bays to the northwest, featuring a roof covered with corrugated tiles and a hipped end on the east side.

  8. A 19th-century stable block with four bays to the west, also roofed with corrugated tiles, which includes two halved doors with slatted vents above and one 19th-century casement window.

  9. A lean-to extension to the west of the stable block, featuring a hipped roof of plain tiles.

All the buildings are oriented towards the yard, enclosing it on the south, east, and north sides, and are included for their group value.
