Description

The Lodge is a house dating from 1847. It is constructed of gault brick and red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a slate roof. The house has a square plan with two internal stacks symmetrically arranged, facing roughly southwest. There are two rear wings, the right wing featuring an internal stack at its end, and an 19th-century single-storey extension beyond. A 19th-20th century extension with a hipped roof and a splayed bay is present on the right return. A small early 20th-century extension with a flat roof sits to the left of the main block, incorporating a large bow window on its left return. The original facade has a 1:1:1 window arrangement, with sashes containing 16, 12, and 16 lights respectively, set within flat brick arches. The central entrance has a six-panel door, the top two panels glazed, sheltered by a Greek Doric portico with fluted pilasters and columns, a flat roof with a panelled soffit, triglyphs, a moulded cornice, and guttae. The main elevation is of gault brick, with corner pilasters and the remaining brickwork of red brick. The roof has a low pitch, and the right return features one blind aperture and one original sash window (16 lights in a segmental arch) on each floor, as well as a 20th-century casement window on the ground floor.
