Description

The barn at Kentishes Farm, located 50 metres east of Kentishes Farmhouse, dates from around 1600. It is timber framed and covered with weatherboarding, with a roof made of corrugated asbestos. The barn consists of four bays arranged in a northwest-southeast direction, featuring an aisle on the northeast side and a midstrey on the southwest. There is a 20th-century shelter shed at the southern angle, which creates a catslide effect with the main roof. The barn's roof is hipped at both ends, while the midstrey has a gabled roof.

Architectural details include jowled arcade-posts and wallposts, straight braces to the arcade-plate, and slightly curved braces to the straight tiebeams. The structure has heavy studding and girts, all of which are tenoned and pegged. The arcade-plate and wallplates feature face-halved and bladed scarfs. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins and includes inserted raking struts. The midstrey is original, with jowled posts, although the roof has been raised by approximately 0.60 metres, incorporating later rafters and a ridge. The barn has 20th-century large doors, and there are small doors at the aisle end of the threshing bay, which are blocked by a nearby 20th-century farm building. Additionally, the southeast wall and part of the southwest wall are lined with galvanised steel sheets for grain storage.
