Description

The Wheatsheaf Inn is a public house, dating back to the 16th century or earlier, with later additions and alterations. The building is timber-framed and has been plastered, featuring wave pargetting and ashlar lines. It is faced with painted brick on its return and has a red plain tiled roof with two red brick chimney stacks, one to the left and one projecting forward off-centre to the right. A long wall jetty is dropped to the right, supported by two moulded brackets and seven iron support shafts, with a brick support to the left. The building has two storeys and cellars. It has a four-window front with 19th-century, small-paned, vertically sliding sash windows in moulded surrounds. A six-panelled door is on the left, and a vertically boarded door is on the right. The interior features carved and moulded ceiling beams. It is said to contain an original four-centred door head and old panelling.
