Description

This is a group of three early 16th-century timber-framed and plastered houses originally with gabled fronts. The space between them was filled in during the 17th century with an additional house, also gabled. The three gables project at different levels on the first storey, supported by exposed beams. The front of the building retains exposed timber framing. Originally, it was believed to be a 16th-century house with cross wings. The building has two storeys and a three-window range with 19th-century and mid-20th century casement windows. The ground floor retains traces of moulded window heads and carved sills from original shallow bay windows. The bressumer (a horizontal beam) at No. 27 is moulded and carved, and is supported by brackets carved with a gloved hand, a cock, a hen, and foliage. A carved beam is also present at the base of the south-west gable. The interior contains some moulded and carved timberwork. Nos. 23 to 27 form a group with Nos. 10 and 12.
