Description
Nos. 54 and 56 Chapel Street are a pair of cottages that date from the 17th and 18th centuries. They feature a timber frame and are pebble dashed, topped with a gambrel roof covered in clay machine-made plain tiles. The cottages are one storey high with attics, and each has dormers with roofs made of pan tiles. No. 56 has a central ridge line stack, while No. 54 has a gable end stack. There are two simple entrance doors, and the windows are early 19th-century double hung sashes with glazing bars and moulded surrounds. The interior of No. 54 retains features such as chamfered and stopped beams, a planked door, and a winder staircase.
