Description
The Offices of North Thames Gas Board, located at 91 High Street in Billericay, is a building that dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Originally a timber-framed and plastered house with cross wings at both the north and south ends, it has undergone significant alterations in the 18th century and later renovations in the 19th century. A board on the front of the building notes that it was the original meeting place for the Billericay dissenters, who were licensed to worship there on April 2nd, 1672, with liberty of conscience. The rear of the house is faced with weatherboarding, and the windows are double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. The first storey windows of the wings feature louvred shutters. The ground storey includes a splayed bay with a dentilled cornice, while the door is from the 20th century. The roof is tiled. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 91 to 95 (odd) along with Nos 72 and 74.
