Description

Topcliffe Mill, located at Number 36 Mill House, is an undershot water mill built around 1740, with an addition from around 1840. The mill is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a tiled mansard roof. It stands three storeys high with a loft. The south side features three iron casement windows with small panes. The two-storey brick addition on the north side, dating from around 1840, has a patterned slate roof. Inside, the machinery is largely intact, including the drive wheel and three grinding stones. The mill house, which originally adjoined the mill on the west side, was demolished in the mid-20th century.
