Description

This is a late 17th and 18th century cottage located on Church End in Gamlimgay. Originally a single range of four bays, it was later extended by one bay at each end in the 18th century, likely to serve as pantries when the cottage was subdivided. The building is timber framed, with some sections of the frame exposed on the rear wall, and the remainder rendered. It has a long, thatched roof with a red brick ridge stack.

The front has five ground floor wooden casement windows, including small windows in the 18th-century end bays, and one modern window replacing a former doorway. The gable ends have modern weatherboarding and window openings. The rear wall shows evidence of the later additions. Inside, one bay remains open to the original roof structure. Evidence of an earlier framed and plastered chimney remains, although much of it was removed in the 18th century when a brick chimney and inglenook hearths were built. The roof features a clasped side purlin structure.
