Description

Manor Farmhouse is a late 15th-century farmhouse with alterations and additions from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The timber frame is now cased in red brick, and the roof is covered with plain tiles. There are stacks on the left end, the ridge, and the right side. Originally a single-storey open hall, it has a service end and a jettied crosswing to the west, similar to numbers 18 The Green and Green Farmhouse. A stack was inserted into the cross passage and hall, and a chambered room was built over the service end in the 17th century. The north-facing elevation features a 19th-century boarded entrance door with spandrel lights, two ground-floor casement windows, and two dormer windows. Inside, the 17th-century stack has been altered to accommodate an 18th-century closed-string staircase, and there is a splat balustered crosswing staircase. Exposed timber framing, floor frames with cambered tie beams, and side purlin roofs with smoke-blackened rafters are visible over the hall. An early 19th-century separate slaughterhouse and bakehouse, originally to the north-east, is now attached to the main building. The farmhouse is situated within a moated site.
