Description

This is a house, originally dating back to the 17th century but substantially rebuilt in the early 19th century, now divided into two separate dwellings at numbers 66 and 68 Church Street. Number 66 is constructed of gault brick with a steeply pitched slate roof and an end stack. The layout of the interior reflects the original three-room plan, with number 66 utilising two of those rooms. The front has two horizontal sliding sash windows on the first floor and two hung sashes on the ground floor, the latter with red brick arches above them. The original doorway is located opposite the stack and features a door with six raised and fielded panels. A brick wing was added to the rear in 1811. Inside, there is a main beam with a reset panel bearing an indecipherable date. Number 68 was rebuilt in 1823, as indicated by dated bricks. It is also of gault brick construction with a slate roof and features two horizontal sliding sash windows with small panes on the first floor, and two hung sashes on either side of the doorway, which has an early 19th century reeded doorcase.
