Description
No. 60 Church Street is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The rear wall is built of gault brick in English bond, with some red brick, particularly on the gable ends. The roof is steeply pitched and tiled, featuring a dentil eaves cornice and tumbled end parapets, along with flush end stacks. The house has a single range plan with lower wings on either side, which may be contemporary or slightly earlier. It stands two storeys high with a symmetrical facade, showcasing three flush frame hung sashes, each with twelve panes set in cambered arches. The central doorway is framed by a plain pilaster doorcase and a narrow hood supported by moulded scroll brackets.
To the left is a horseman's cottage, now used as a kitchen, which has a gault brick front wall but earlier red brick side walls and stack. It features a lean-to roof with tumbling on the front wall. On the right is another cottage, also from the late 18th century or early 19th century, built of gault brick. Its original roof has been replaced with corrugated iron. This cottage is two storeys high and has one horizontal sliding sash with small panes on the first floor, and one hung sash with sixteen panes in a segmental arch on the ground floor. The ground floor also features a late 18th century or early 19th century six-panelled door in a similar segmental arch. Inside the main house, one ground floor room retains an original dentil moulded cornice and raised and fielded panelling on the doors and cupboards.
