Description
Stone Corner Cottage is a house dating from the 14th century, with alterations from the 16th century and a rear kitchen wing. It features a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a long straw thatched hipped roof with gables. The cottage has a rebuilt red brick ridge stack and a painted brick stack at the rear. It stands two storeys high, with four casement windows on the first floor and three larger casement windows on the ground floor. The entrance includes an 18th-century six-panelled door located in a lobby entry. The original hall consists of four bays, characterized by steeply cambered tie beams, with the tie beam in the left-hand bay showing trenches for passing braces. The rafters are smoke blackened and mostly in situ, except for those in the center two bays, which may have been resited when the chimney was inserted. The crown posts, collar purlins, and collars were likely removed during this alteration. Additionally, there are two windows featuring diamond mullions and evidence of wide parallel braces on the ground floor.
