Description

This is a mid-18th century printing workshop, originally used as The Linton Literary Institute and a meeting house. The building has undergone alterations in the 19th century. It is timber-framed with a mansard roof covered in plain tiles and pantiles, which is half-hipped facing the street. The building is one storey high with an attic. The front elevation features an eight-panelled door, flanked by two horizontal sliding sash windows. There are also two smaller sash windows in the attic. Above the door is a blank panel and a decorative death mask on the west side. Original 18th-century details remain, including a bolection moulded doorcase, parts of the original window frames, and a chimney piece. The Linton Literary Institute was founded around 1873.
