Description

The south-west part of Number 45 on Linton High Street is a late 17th-century building that was originally one dwelling but has since been divided into two. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure, with Number 45 cased in 18th-century painted brick and Number 43 in 20th-century red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles, with some lower courses made of slate. A tall red brick ridge stack is located to the left of center, adorned with two recessed panels that have pointed heads.

The building has two storeys and attics, with Number 43 designed with a lobby entry plan, while Number 45 may have a gable extension. There are two 20th-century glazed doors, three sixteen-paned recessed ground floor hung sash windows, and four similar windows on the first floor.

Inside, a passageway was cut through the chimney stack in the 19th century, leading to a rear staircase. The first-floor room features a relief plastered frieze panel on the chimney wall, depicting a cherub surrounded by swags, vine foliage, flowers, and dragon heads. The interior also includes an ovolo-moulded axial beam and chamfer-stopped floor beams. The attic wall of Number 45 has pargetted decoration with a repeated free design of flower buds in fleur de lys. Additionally, there is a late 17th-century three-light iron casement window with original leaded quarries, which has been resited in the attic partition.
