Description

Milestone located at the corner of Ermine Way and Potton Road, dating from the 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape with a chamfered top and raised lettering. The milestone is painted white with black lettering indicating distances: Arrington 67 miles, Oxford 10 miles, and Potton 8 miles. The road from Wimpole to Potton was turnpiked in 1826 and disturnpiked in 1879, as noted in the Wimpole and Potton Road Act of 1826.
