Description
The Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels is a Grade II* listed building. It features a nave, tower, and south porch that date back to the 14th century. The south wall was rebuilt around 1680, while the chancel and north porch were reconstructed by Kett in 1859, with further restoration occurring in 1899. The church is constructed from field stones with limestone dressings and some reused materials, topped with plain tile roofs.
On the south elevation, the tower has three stages, a plinth, an embattled parapet with a gargoyle, and four diagonal buttresses. It includes a two-light belfry window and a lower squared-headed single-light window. The nave features a gable parapet that extends as a buttress, with three restored two-light windows set in two-centred arches. The porch has a restored two-centred archway made of clunch. The chancel also has a gable parapet and a diagonal buttress, with 19th-century restored windows.
Inside, the tower arch consists of three moulded and one chamfered order, while the chancel arch has two chamfered orders with attached shafts that have moulded caps. The font is octagonal with a moulded soffit and base, dating from the 15th century. There is also a screen of three bays from the 15th century and a reset piscina with a foiled drain.
