Description

Weston Colville Hall is a house that dates from the early 18th century, with additions from the mid-18th century and 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, which is stuccoed, and features a slated roof with end parapets on kneelers at the front range. The building has end stacks and an irregular plan, although it retains the symmetrical layout of the original 18th-century house on the north side, which was extended to the south by a stair bay in the mid-18th century. There are also two-storey extensions from the 19th century at each end of the early 18th-century north range, along with further extensions in the angles between the north range and the stair bay. The house is two storeys high with an attic and has two early 18th-century dormers with pedimented gables. The symmetrical facade features five bays, with the central bay flanked by giant pilasters that have Corinthian capitals. Five original steps lead up to the doorway, which is now in a modern porch, and the wooden door is set within a case that has raised surrounds and keyblocks to the hung sashes with central glazing bars from the 19th century. An addition at the west end includes a cast iron porch with a tented roof.

Inside, the hall features early 18th-century raised and fielded panelling and two bolection moulded fireplaces on the ground floor. There is a two-flight open well staircase with an open string and winders that rises through two storeys. Each tread has three balusters of the column-on-vase type, with the columns enriched with iron twists and the vases carved. Fluted Doric columns serve as newels, and there is a moulded rail.
