Description

73 and 75 High Street is a cottage, now divided into two dwellings, built around 1620 for Richard Allen. The building has been extended by one bay at the north end. It features a timber frame with plaster rendering and a long straw thatched roof. A red brick ridge stack with diagonally set grouped shafts sits on a square base. The cottage is one storey high with an attic, two dormers, two three-light casements, and two doorways. No. 73 has a modern thatched porch. The interior of No. 75 was inspected, revealing original framing, although the ceiling has been replaced. Notable features include downward wall bracing and jowled posts, as well as an inglenook hearth.
