Description
Ash Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with alterations from the late 17th century and a 20th-century addition to the west. It features a substantial timber frame with a brick extension that is plastered. The roof is half hipped and thatched, while the extension has a pantiled roof. There is a red brick end stack at the west end of both the cottage and the extension. The building has one storey and an attic, with a two-unit plan that includes an open hall and a floored end bay to the east. The entrance, which has a porch, is located on the east side, and there is one ground floor casement window along with an eyebrow dormer window. Inside, the substantial timber frame includes wide braces that are trenched and nailed across the studs, and the roof features collar rafters. There is an inserted hall floor and a chimney with an inglenook hearth and niches.
