Description
Olde Thatch is a 17th-century cottage located on Denmark Road in Cottenham. It features a timber frame that is roughcast rendered on a brick sill, topped with thatched half-hipped roofs made of long straw. The main range has an original ridge stack made of gault brick. The layout includes a hall range with a lobby entry and a crosswing on the right side. The cottage is one storey and has an attic. There are two 19th-century flush frame hung sash windows with twelve panes each on either side of the lobby entry doorway, which consists of six raised and fielded panels. A fire insurance plaque is located on the gable end. The crosswing is constructed from similar materials and also has one storey and an attic, featuring a horizontal sliding sash window on the gable end. Inside, the timber framing is exposed, and the main range has two bays with abutting hearths. There is a closed truss between the crosswing and the main range.
