Description
The statue of Albert, Prince Consort, is located at Madingley Hall and was created in 1866 by the artist J.H. Foley, R.A. The statue is made of white marble and stands on a grey marble plinth. It depicts an over life-size figure of Albert in the robes of the Chancellor of Cambridge University. The statue is set on a square plinth with a moulded base and surbase. There are four roundels in white marble: three feature female figures symbolizing learning, literature, and science, while the fourth roundel is inscribed. Originally commissioned by the Senate of Cambridge University, the statue was first placed in the entrance hall of the Fitzwilliam Museum before being relocated to its current site in 1956.
