Description

The Grange is a house dated 1867, evidenced by floor tiles bearing the maker's name Mawes. It is constructed of yellow gault brick with red brick dressings, featuring patterned plain tile roofs and ridge tiles. The building is two storeys with attics, arranged as a double-pile range with a cross wing to the southwest and service rooms and stables to the northeast. The main entrance is through a two-storey gabled porch, featuring patterned bargeboards, a finial, six-panelled double doors, a pointed arch, a fanlight, and a three-light window above. To the right of the entrance is a service screen wall and separate kitchen entrance. The ground floor has three three-light hung sash windows, while the first floor presents five six-paned hung sash windows set within gauged flat brick arches, each with key blocks. Four chimney stacks are present, including two at the gable ends of the cross wing. The garden facade incorporates a loggia of three bays, each with segmental arches, paired wooden columns, side lights with coloured glass margins, and a tented copper roof. Original and complete interior features include good chimney pieces, staircases, and plastered ceilings.
