Description
Kings Mill is a watermill mainly from the late 19th century, but it includes part of an earlier mill from the 17th to 18th century to the north. The building now serves as offices and a dwelling house. It is timber framed, weatherboarded, and constructed with gault brick. The 17th to 18th century section features steeply pitched pantiled roofs. The main range spans the mill race and has a range to the north, standing two storeys tall with an attic. The ground floor contains garages, while above are 20th-century small pane casements. To the south, there are 19th-century extensions; one is made of gault brick with weatherboarded upper storeys and has four storeys, while the other is also of gault brick with a slate roof, featuring four original windows with cast iron glazing bars on each storey. A mill is mentioned in the Domesday Survey for Great Shelford.
