Description

Farmhouse. Dating from the 16th century, it was rebuilt in the 17th century, with two rear wings added at that time. Parts of the building were demolished in the early 19th century, and the farmhouse has undergone alterations and additions in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed with plastered and painted brick, and has slate and plain tile roofs. A 17th-century ridge stack is located at the rear wing, with grouped shafts, and a rebuilt ridge stack stands to the right of the centre of the main north-south range. The original plan comprised three units, with a rear wing and sunken dairy, as well as later lean-to additions to the rear. An estate map from 1779 suggests the building may have been extended northwards.

The front elevation features a main entrance to the left of centre, with a wooden doorcase, a six-panelled door, and a rectangular fanlight above. There are two twelve-paned 19th-century flush-framed sash windows and one small window to the right, with four similar sash windows on the first floor. The eaves are boarded, and the building has a plastered plinth.

The interior shows a roof rebuilt and walls raised in the early 19th century. Some original, possibly 16th-century, timber framing remains on the southwest wall of the main range. There are some two-panelled doors, likely from the late 17th or early 18th century, and a single first-floor sash window. An early 19th-century staircase, partitions, and panelled doors are also present. An 18th-century chimney piece has been introduced, along with boxed ceiling beads. An early 19th-century bakehouse and brewhouse, constructed of flint with red brick dressings, are located to the north. The farmhouse is situated to the east of a large moated site.
