Description

The Old Bakehouse is a dwelling of two ranges, originally two shops, dating from the late medieval period with later alterations, situated on the north-east side of High Street, Kimbolton. The northern range is a late medieval hall house, with a timber-framed range to the rear and a 17th-century range to the south-east. The building is two storeys high with a central cartway. The exterior is roughly rendered with a plain tile roof, and features rear stacks. The street facade has a first-floor three-window range, comprising two hung sash windows with glazing bars, and one horizontal sliding sash window with glazing bars. Beneath, there are two shallow bayed shop windows and a half-glazed shop door to the south-east. The interior of the north-west range retains good stop-chamfered ceiling beams and remnants of an original crown-post roof. The south-east range contains sealed inglenook hearths and a boxed staircase. A 17th-century butt-purlin roof is also present.
