Description
No. 1 and No. 2 High Street is a 16th-century timber-framed house located on a corner. It has two storeys and may have originally been two separate buildings connected by a central passageway, with a later rear wing that includes Nos. 2 and 3 Castle Green. The exterior is roughcast rendered and features a steeply pitched plain tile roof that is raised at the front. There are two chimney stacks and a coved eaves cornice.
The street-facing side has three first-floor horizontal sliding sash windows with glazing bars set in moulded frames, along with two larger similar windows on either side of a four-panelled door that has a plain wooden architrave. The windows and door are surrounded by plain plaster margins. Inside, the house retains an original side purlin roof with wind braces, a coved ceiling in the north-east bedroom, and a large inglenook hearth.
