Description
66 and 68 High Street is a Grade II listed L-plan house dated 1774, constructed of gault brick with a plain tile roof. It features shallow tumbled parapet gables and a stack on the left side. The rear wall consists of three bays and a wing that is timber-framed. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window arrangement of hung sashes with glazing bars on the first floor. Below, two large hung sash windows in gauged red brick with segmental arches flank a central doorway. The doorcase is adorned with reeded pilasters and a frieze, featuring boss enrichment on the capitals, a projecting cornice, and panelled reveals. The entrance includes a six-panelled door and a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. The rear wing has a fine 18th-century door and doorcase, which may have originally served as the front door. Inside, there are three large inglenook hearths, a closed string staircase with square section balusters, and raised and fielded two-panel doors with original hinges.
